Three workers killed and five injured in accident at manufacturing unit in Jalandhar

Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic industrial accident occurred on Monday at an equipment manufacturing unit named Mac Choice in Dhogri village of Jalandhar district, Punjab, resulting in the death of three women workers and injuries to five others.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jalandhar, Harvinder Singh Virk, stated that the incident took place at around 2 pm at the Mac Choice manufacturing unit located under the jurisdiction of Adampur police station. During the accident, a steel-frame storage rack installed inside the unit suddenly collapsed.

As a result, around 60–70 boxes containing iron tools, stored at a height of nearly 15 feet, fell directly onto several women workers who were on duty at the time.

Three women workers declared dead at hospital

The SSP said that three women workers who were critically injured were immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital in Jalandhar, where doctors declared them dead. The deceased have been identified as Chanchal Rani (56), wife of late Charan Dass Bhandari and resident of Santokhpura, Jalandhar; Simi (35), wife of late Rakesh Kumar and resident of Dhogri village under Adampur police station; and Anita Devi, wife of Kalesh Paswan and resident of Focal Point, Jalandhar.

Five injured workers given first aid

Apart from the fatalities, five other women workers sustained minor injuries in the incident and were provided first aid. The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary, and statements of family members are being recorded.

Police officials confirmed that necessary legal action is being initiated, and further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
