Hoshiarpur (The Uttam Hindu) : A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday in Hoshiarpur district, Haryana, where the roof of a cowshed collapsed, leading to the death of at least 35 cows. The heartbreaking accident occurred around 2:30 AM, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.

At the time of the collapse, approximately 42 cows were housed inside the shelter. Most of them were buried under the debris as the structure gave way without warning. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but officials suspect structural weakness or poor maintenance may have contributed to the disaster.

Upon receiving the information, the local administration, along with social welfare organizations and animal rescue teams, rushed to the scene. A swift rescue operation was launched with the help of JCB machines to remove the heavy debris. So far, 35 cow carcasses have been recovered, while a few injured animals have been rescued and are receiving veterinary care.

“The scene is deeply distressing. Efforts are ongoing to clear the debris completely and ensure any surviving animals are rescued,” a local official told the press. The incident has sparked outrage and grief in the area, with residents expressing sorrow over the loss of the animals and demanding strict action against those responsible for the upkeep of the cowshed.

District authorities have ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident. “We will thoroughly investigate the cause of this collapse and take appropriate action. Accountability will be fixed,” a senior administrative officer stated. Animal welfare organizations have also called for better safety and monitoring standards in shelters housing large numbers of animals to prevent such tragedies in the future.
