Veteran players from Ferozepur create history: Defying age, now showcasing their strength at the upcoming National Championship in Goa

Ferozpur(The Uttam Hindu): They say that sports require passion, not age. Two veteran players from Ferozepur, Dr. Ranjana Sehgal (CMS Railway) and Mr. Ashok Wadhera, proved this to be true. In the 55+ mixed doubles event of the Punjab State Veteran Badminton Championships, this pair not only won the gold medal but also wrote a new chapter in Ferozepur's badminton history.
In the final, the Ferozepur pair defeated their rivals from Mohali in a one-sided match by a score of 21-10, 21-11. This is the first time that a badminton team from Ferozepur, on the verge of advancing years, has represented the district at the state level and secured a national berth.
Mr. Manoj Gupta, Senior Vice President of the District Badminton Association (DBA), and Mr. Vinay Vohra, Vice President and Secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association, proudly announced that the winning team will represent Punjab at the National Veterans Championship to be held in Goa from March 18 to 25, 2026.
A special felicitation ceremony was organized by DBA Ferozepur to commemorate this unprecedented achievement of the players. Mr. Jones Vikas, CEO of the Cantonment Board, announced that a new modern court is being constructed in the Cantonment area to promote badminton, where players from all walks of life will be able to practice.
A senior railway official, Mr. Akashdeep Singh, assured the players of the necessary sports equipment and facilities for their preparation. Dr. Ranjana and Ashok Wadhera also expressed their gratitude to Mr. Meet Hayer, President of the Punjab Badminton Association, and Mr. Ritin Khanna, Secretary, for providing tracksuits and kits to all the national players.
This victory is not just a medal, but an inspiration for all those who leave the sport due to age. We are confident that this pair will hoist the victory flag in Goa too.
On this occasion, Mr. Mandeep Singh (Electrical Department), Mr. Vikas Ji, Mr. Chaudhary and other dignitaries of the Railways were specially present.
