Weather Alert: IMD Predicts Heavy Downpour, Orange Alert Issued, Authorities on Standby

Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian Meteorological Department has sounded a weather warning for Punjab, issuing a yellow alert for Saturday and an orange alert for Sunday in view of expected heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts.
While Friday saw intervals of sunshine and scattered clouds across parts of the state, the weather turned hot and humid due to intense solar radiation. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 39°C, followed by Sangrur at 37.1°C, Fazilka and Patiala at 36.8°C, Mohali at 36.7°C, Ludhiana at 36.1°C, and Jalandhar at 35.6°C.
The average day temperature in the state has risen by 3.1°C, bringing it close to the seasonal norm. However, this sudden rise is likely to be followed by a sharp dip as heavy rains approach.
Forecast Ahead
According to the Chandigarh Weather Centre, heavy rainfall is expected to begin from Friday evening in some isolated regions, with more widespread and intense showers predicted for Sunday. The orange alert indicates the possibility of localized flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and disruption to transportation and outdoor activities.
