New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The BJP has made a major announcement ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that the NDA will form the government in Punjab in the 2027 Assembly elections. Shah made this statement during an event in Delhi. Following Shah's statement, discussions about a BJP alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal have intensified in political circles.

In his statement, Shah reiterated his promise for Punjab, saying he would eliminate the drug trade from Punjab by 2029. Amit Shah said, "I went to Punjab just the day before yesterday. The way the drug trade has flourished under the AAP government, the people of Punjab have decided. This time, the NDA government will be formed there. Remember what I said." He also said, "Kejriwal, listen carefully. The politics of excuses doesn't last long. Results have to be achieved. You lost in Delhi. You are camping in Punjab and not allowing the Chief Minister to work. You are disrupting the work there. Listen to me carefully, AAP is going to be wiped out from there in the next elections. We will eliminate the drug trade from Punjab by 2029."

It should be noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has visited Punjab twice this year. During his recent visit, Shah met with the families of those who lost their lives while raising their voices against drug abuse. He met with the families of victims in Gurdaspur, Sangrur, and Mansa and assured them that action would be taken against drug traffickers and that attempts to suppress such voices would not be successful. He also promised to put drug traffickers behind bars.

It's also worth noting that the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alliance in Punjab dates back nearly 24 years. The two parties broke up in 2020 due to a dispute over three agricultural laws. Following this, the two parties separated, leading to the 2022 assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 92 seats and formed the government. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) won three seats, while the BJP won only two.
