Surat (The Uttam Hindu): Meghalaya batsman Akash Choudhary has created history. On Sunday, during a Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh, the 25-year-old batsman scored the fastest half-century in first-class cricket.

Akash reached his half-century in just 11 balls. This is the fastest half-century in first-class cricket. During his innings, Akash hit six consecutive sixes in a single over off Arunachal bowler Limar Dabi. He also hit sixes on his next two balls. Thus, by hitting eight consecutive sixes, Akash reached his fifty in 11 balls. Akash came in to bat at number eight.

Before Akash Chaudhary, former Indian cricket team captain Ravi Shastri and West Indies' Gary Sobers have hit 6 consecutive sixes in first class cricket.

Akash broke Wayne White's record for the fastest half-century in first-class cricket. White scored a half-century off 12 balls in 2012. Clive Inman reached the milestone in 1965, taking 13 balls.

Speaking of the match, Meghalaya, batting first, declared their innings at 628 for 6. Arpit Bhatewara scored 207, Rahul Dalal scored 144, and Kishan Lyngdoh scored 119. Ajay Duhan scored 53.
