New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Shocking news is coming for the fans of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, considered two of the biggest pillars of Indian cricket. If reports are to be believed, the BCCI is preparing to make a major cut in the annual earnings of these two legendary players. In fact, the annual general meeting of the BCCI Apex Council is going to be held on December 22, in which a big decision can be taken on the revision of the central contracts of the players. In this online meeting, the downgrade of Rohit and Virat is being considered, which will directly affect their annual salary.

According to media reports, since Rohit and Virat have now retired from Test and T20 international formats, there will be debate about whether they should still be retained in the A-plus grade. Under BCCI rules, the A-plus grade, which carries an annual salary of ₹7 crore (70 million rupees), is awarded to players who play in all three formats. If these two are demoted to A grade, their salaries will drop from ₹7 crore (70 million rupees) to ₹5 crore (50 million rupees). This means they could suffer a direct financial loss of ₹2 crore (20 million rupees).

While senior players face salary cuts, young star Shubman Gill's fortunes are set to shine. Gill is a key member of Team India across all three formats and currently holds an A-grade contract. It's believed he could be promoted from A-grade to A-plus grade during the December 22nd meeting. If this happens, Shubman Gill's annual salary will see a bumper increase of ₹2 crore (20 million rupees), placing him in the ₹7 crore (70 million rupees) category. The meeting is also likely to discuss domestic contracts for women cricketers.
