Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): A new era has begun at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a historic decision, the board has elected former domestic cricketer Mithun Manhas as its new president. His name was officially approved after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Mumbai on Sunday. Mithun Manhas has replaced Roger Binny and has become the first uncapped player (one who has not played an international match for the country) to reach the top post of BCCI.

The news of Mithun Manhas's appointment as president was first shared by Union Minister Jitendra Singh on the social media platform 'X'. He wrote, "Mithun Manhas has been officially declared the new President of the BCCI. What a fortunate Sunday for the far eastern Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, which is also my home district. Within a few hours, first Kishtwar's daughter Sheetal (Devi) became a world champion and soon after that, Mithun was elected BCCI President."

Mithun Manhas is only the third cricketer to become BCCI president. Before him, Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny held the position as cricketers. While both Ganguly and Binny played international cricket for India, Manhas, a stellar player in domestic cricket for Delhi, is the first president who never represented the senior Indian team. This is an unprecedented moment in Indian cricket administration.
