Big Move from BCCI? Rohit and Kohli Set for Unexpected Domestic Return

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): Even as India host South Africa in a five-match T20I series, the BCCI is reportedly reinforcing the importance of domestic cricket for senior players. According to media reports, the board has advised members of India’s white-ball squad to play at least two matches in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The development is significant as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to take part in the tournament. Both players have already confirmed their availability, with Rohit set to represent Mumbai and Kohli turning out for Delhi.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 will begin on December 24 and run until January 18, featuring matches in the one-day format. With both veterans now focusing exclusively on ODIs, their participation is being seen as a move to maintain match sharpness through competitive domestic cricket.
The timing also aligns with their strong form. Kohli recently dominated the ODI series against South Africa with multiple big scores, while Rohit has continued to deliver impactful innings at the top of the order.
The message from the board appears clear — domestic cricket remains central, even for India’s biggest stars.
