Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): The second day of the Kolkata Test match between India and South Africa saw a major turn, with worrying news emerging for Team India. Captain Shubman Gill was hospitalized mid-match due to sudden, severe neck pain. According to sources, he has now been shifted to the ICU. Consequently, Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the Kolkata Test.

Shubman Gill came out to bat after Washington Sundar was out. He hit a four on the third ball, but as soon as he played the shot, he felt a sharp pain in his neck, after which he immediately removed his helmet. After being examined by the physio, he retired hurt and went off the field. After this, he did not play again in the innings.
According to a report, Gill has been admitted to Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata, where he will be kept under observation for one night. Doctors have given him medication and his condition is being monitored continuously. Although no official statement has been issued by the BCCI yet, the team management is currently in a wait-and-see mode. If Gill's condition does not improve, it may be difficult for him to play in the second Test starting in Guwahati on November 21st, which could impact Team India's strategy.
After the second day's play, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak revealed that Gill had been feeling pain in the back of his neck since waking up in the morning, but he decided to bat anyway. The pain worsened while playing a shot, and he was unable to continue, ending India's innings at 9 wickets.
