Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton Make it to the All-American Quarterfinals

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Francis Tiafoe defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 6-4 to enter the quarterfinals of the DC Open. This is Tiafoe's third quarterfinal in the 2025 ATP Tour season, having previously achieved this feat in Houston and Roland Garros.
According to the ATP, Tiafoe joins Andre Agassi and Alexander Zverev as the few men's players this century to reach the Washington quarterfinals four years in a row. With his first Top 20 win (1-2) this season, Tiafoe has recorded two consecutive hard-court victories for the first time since the 2024 US Open semifinals.
Tiafoe defeated compatriot Ben Shelton in the third round of last year's US Open and will face off again in Friday's quarterfinal, where he will have a chance to level his Lexus ATP head-to-head record against Shelton at 2-2. Shelton reached the last eight by beating Gabriel Diallo 6-3, 6-2.
Tiafoe said about the match with Shelton, “I am excited. We are very good friends. We had a great match at the US Open last year. I think we both played our best then. He beat me the first few times. He is a great player and a good friend of mine.”
Ben Shelton made the quarterfinals for the second consecutive tournament after Wimbledon, where he lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
Meanwhile, American Brandon Nakashima beat Cameron Norrie 7-6 (3), 6-3 to reach the Washington quarterfinals where he will face seventh seed Alex de Minaur.
Taylor Fritz defeated Italy's Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-4. Top seed Fritz has reached the quarterfinals for the fourth time in his last five tournaments, including his semifinal achievement at Wimbledon.
