Diogo Jota, Liverpool Forward, Dies Alongside Brother in Tragic Crash Days After Wedding

Spain (The Uttam Hindu): Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, 28, and his younger brother Andre Felipe, 26, who played for Portuguese club Penafiel, lost their lives in a devastating car accident early Thursday morning in Zamora, Spain. The tragic incident was confirmed by the Spanish Civil Guard.
The two brothers were traveling on the A52 highway near the municipality of Cernadilla when the accident occurred around 12:30 AM. According to preliminary investigations, the Lamborghini they were in reportedly suffered a tire burst while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The car veered off the road, burst into flames, and both brothers were killed on the spot. Emergency responders, including fire services and medical teams, arrived swiftly but were unable to save them.
The accident occurred just days after Diogo Jota married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso on June 22. The couple had been together since 2012 and have three children.
Jota had joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers for €44.7 million. Over his time with the club, he made 182 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. He won three major trophies with the Reds, including the Premier League title in 2024-25, the FA Cup, and the League Cup in 2021-22. Jota also had a brief stint with Atletico Madrid, having been signed from Paços Ferreira in 2016. He was later loaned out to Porto and Wolverhampton, where he eventually signed permanently in 2018 before moving to Liverpool.
