Vadodara (The Uttam Hindu): Indian cricket team's star batsman Shreyas Iyer is all set to return to international cricket after a long gap of about two and a half months, but just before reaching Vadodara, he narrowly escaped an accident which could have put a shadow on his comeback. Iyer, who is going to play the ODI series against New Zealand, narrowly escaped being attacked by a fan's dog. His attempt to caress the dog was about to prove fatal for him but his alertness saved him.

Dog suddenly snatches hand, video goes viral

A video of this incident is rapidly going viral on social media. In the video, Shreyas Iyer was about to get into his car when he met some fans. He first signed an autograph for a little girl. Meanwhile, a female fan was standing there with her white pet dog. The woman told Iyer that one of his "fans" had come to meet him. Since Iyer himself is very fond of dogs, he extended his hand to pet the dog. But then the dog became aggressive and quickly tried to grab his hand and bite it.

Iyer's quickness averted a major accident

Despite the dog's sudden attack, Iyer remained completely alert. With lightning speed, he immediately pulled his hand back, preventing the dog from biting him. The incident stunned everyone present, but Iyer showed no anger or resentment. He simply laughed it off and moved on. However, cricket experts believe that even the slightest mistake could have resulted in a serious situation.

He was out for two and a half months due to injury.

This incident is significant because Shreyas Iyer has been struggling with fitness issues recently. He suffered a serious injury while attempting a spectacular catch during the Australia tour, keeping him out of action for the past two and a half months. He is now returning to action in the series against New Zealand. If the dog bite had caused any further injury, he could have been sidelined from Team India once again, and all his hard work would have been wasted.
