Dream11 Out After Govt Regulation: BCCI Deal Ends Amid New Online Gaming Law

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ended its relationship with fantasy sports company Dream11. This was confirmed by the board's secretary Devjit Saikia on Monday. Now the BCCI is deliberating on finding a new lead sponsor.
Devjit Saikia said, "Under the new law, it will be difficult for the BCCI to continue the contract with Dream11 or any other similar gaming company. I don't think the BCCI will be able to continue the contract with Dream11 now. We are currently considering the option." The Men's T20 Asia Cup is going to start in the UAE from September 9, for which very little time is left now. When asked whether the BCCI will issue a new tender for the sponsor of the Indian team soon, Saikia said, "We have not decided anything yet, but we have to look for an alternative now. With Dream11 leaving, the sponsorship slot will be vacant. Therefore, we are looking for an alternative. We are currently deliberating on what we have to do for this and how to do it. Under the new law, Dream11 will no longer be with us."
In July 2023, Dream11 replaced edtech company Byju's as the lead sponsor of the Indian cricket team in a three-year deal worth Rs 358 crore. Dream11 has a significant presence in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was the lead sponsor in 2020 after Vivo withdrew. Last week, after the Online Gaming (Promotion and Regulation) Bill 2025 was passed by both houses of Parliament and received the assent of President Draupadi Murmu, Dream11 announced that it has suspended all money-based online gaming competitions on its platform.
