Golden punch: Lovlina clinches 12th gold for India, beats China in 75kg final
Indian boxer Lovlina won India's 12th gold at Asian Games, defeating a Chinese boxer in the women's 75kg final bout.

Nishio (The Uttam Hindu): Lovlina Borgohain defeated China’s Bao Jiayi by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women’s 75kg final to win the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The victory secured India’s 12th gold medal of the Games and marked Lovlina’s second consecutive appearance in the Asian Games final.
Lovlina, who won silver at the previous Asian Games, produced a composed and tactical performance against the aggressive Chinese boxer. After starting cautiously, she adapted her strategy, using clinches, movement and timely counters to stay ahead. She had earlier defeated a Kazakh boxer in the semi-final to reach the final.
With the victory, Lovlina became only the second Indian woman boxer after Mary Kom to win an Asian Games gold medal. She also became the first Indian female boxer to win both gold and silver medals at the Asian Games. The achievement came on her 29th birthday making the occasion particularly memorable for the boxer.
