Historic win! BCCI declares ₹51 crore prize for Indian women’s cricket team

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – The Indian women's cricket team made history by winning the ICC Women's World Cup for the first time. India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final played at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
Celebrations erupted across the country. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announced a reward of ₹51 crore for the players and support staff. He called it a major moment for Indian women's cricket. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal also compared the victory to the 1983 World Cup victory by the men's team. He said that today was a memorable day in the history of women's cricket, and that women's cricket would now reach new heights.
Dhumal told IANS, "This is a memorable day for Indian women's cricket. What the men's team achieved in 1983, the Indian women have replicated it in Mumbai today. This historic win will give a tremendous boost to women's cricket in the country and I am confident that our game will now reach new heights." Batting first, India scored 298 runs. Shafali Verma scored 87 runs, Deepti Sharma scored 58 runs and Smriti Mandhana scored 45 runs. India's opening pair gave the team a strong start by making a partnership of 100 runs.
In response, South Africa got off to a good start, but India quickly took wickets to turn the match in their favor. Deepti Sharma bowled brilliantly, taking five wickets. Shefali Verma also performed brilliantly with the ball, taking two wickets. South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt scored 101 runs, but her team was all out for 246. With this victory, a new era has begun in Indian women's cricket. The girls had tears of joy in their eyes, and the national flag was flying proudly.
