ICC fines Suryakumar Yadav over remarks on Pahalgam attack

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) - Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was fined 30 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday following a complaint filed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan filed a complaint against Suryakumar with the ICC, accusing him of making political comments. Suryakumar dedicated his team's victory over arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian Armed Forces.
Suryakumar Yadav said after the match, "Just wanted to say something. This is the perfect opportunity to take the time. We stand with the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. We want to dedicate this victory to all our armed forces who displayed indomitable courage. Hopefully, they will continue to inspire us, and whenever we get the chance, we will give them more reasons to smile on the field." Surya made a similar statement in the post-match press conference.
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has denied the allegations leveled by the ICC following a complaint by the Pakistan Cricket Board and has been asked not to make any statements that could be construed as political in nature for the remainder of the tournament. The Indian captain was heard by ICC match referee Richie Richardson. Tensions between the two sides have been high since India refused to shake the traditional handshake with Pakistani players at the toss and after the match to show solidarity with the Pahalgam victims. India and Pakistan have clashed twice in this tournament and another match will be played on Sunday, September 28, which is the final of the Asia Cup 2025.
