New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India 's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has once again made the country proud with his brilliant performance at the international level. Participating for the first time in the Golden Spike Meet on Tuesday, he won the title with a best throw of 85.29 meters. This victory holds special significance for Neeraj as it is his second international victory just four days after winning the Paris Diamond League. A total of nine players participated in the meet, in which Neeraj topped the third round with a throw of 85.29 meters.

Neeraj Chopra won the Golden Spike Meet title for the first time, threw a winning throw of 85.29 meters: South Africa's Douwe Smit finished second with 84.12 meters and two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished third with a throw of 83.63 meters. Chopra made 82.17 meters, 81.01 meters and one foul in his remaining throws respectively. Rio Olympics gold medalist Thomas Rohle finished seventh in the competition with a throw of only 79.18 meters. However, the absence of Neeraj's main rival Julian Weber of Germany made the event a bit less competitive.

In the last two editions, Neeraj could not participate in this meet due to fitness reasons. Interestingly, his coach Jan Zelenji has won this meet nine times and now Neeraj has also joined that proud list. 27-year-old Neeraj Chopra has also thrown more than 90 meters in the Doha Diamond League this season. Now he will once again take the field in the Neeraj Chopra Classic to be held in Bengaluru on July 5.
