India set to receive formal approval as host of the 2030 Commonwealth games on this date

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India is almost certain to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and is expected to receive formal approval at the Commonwealth Games General Assembly in Glasgow on Wednesday, a major step towards India's goal of becoming a global multi-sport hub.
India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010 in Delhi, while this time the event will be held in Ahmedabad, where the sporting infrastructure has developed rapidly in recent years. The General Assembly will approve the recommendation given by the Evaluation Committee based on aspects such as technical capability, infrastructure and athlete experience.
India was competing with Abuja, Nigeria, in this bid, but has been kept in consideration for the 2034 edition. India will make its presentation on Wednesday, and after approval, a special broadcast moment will also be presented. The formal announcement is expected around 6:30 pm. India will be represented at the meeting by Joint Secretary (Sports) Kunal, IOA President P.T. Usha, and Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi.
The 2010 Delhi Games cost many times more than anticipated, while maintaining the Commonwealth Games' relevance has been challenging in recent years. Hosting the 2030 Games will also strengthen India's efforts to host the 2036 Olympics. Commonwealth Games has found Ahmedabad suitable based on its technical capabilities and infrastructure.
Ahmedabad has recently hosted several international tournaments and a massive sports complex is being developed at the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, which will include the Narendra Modi Stadium, an Aquatics Centre, and a football stadium. The IOA has clarified that India plans to include all major and traditional Indian sports, including shooting, wrestling, and archery, in the 2030 Games. Commonwealth Sport stated that India is a country with a rich history and diversity in sports, and Ahmedabad's bid reflects its modern sporting potential.
