Queensland (The Uttam Hindu): Team India continued their dominant run in the T20 series, defeating Australia by 48 runs in the fourth match played at Gold Coast, Queensland. With this win, India now lead the five-match series 2-1.

Chasing a target of 168 runs, Australia were bowled out for 119 in 18.2 overs. Except for captain Mitchell Marsh (30) and Matt Short (25), no Australian batsman could make an impact, with the last five batters failing to reach double digits.

India’s spinners played a crucial role in dismantling the Australian batting order. Washington Sundar was the standout performer, taking 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 1.2 overs. Axar Patel picked up 2 wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy took 1. Among pacers, Shivam Dube bagged 2 wickets, and Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah claimed 1 each.

Earlier, Australia had won the toss and opted to bowl first. India got a solid start from Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, who added 56 runs for the first wicket. Abhishek scored 28 off 21 balls, while Gill top-scored with 46 off 39 deliveries. Regular fall of wickets in the middle overs limited India to 167/8 in 20 overs.

Shivam Dube (22), captain Suryakumar Yadav (20), and Axar Patel (21 not out)* made useful contributions.

For Australia, Nathan Ellis was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs, while Adam Zampa also took 3 wickets but conceded 45 runs. Xavier Bartlett and Marcus Stoinis took a wicket each.

The five-match series now stands at 2-1 in India’s favor, with one match rained out earlier. The fifth and final T20 will be played on Saturday.
