Supreme Court on India–Pakistan Asia Cup clash: “Match should go on”

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The country's Supreme Court has said that the match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup should continue. On Thursday, the Supreme Court refused to give an immediate hearing on the petition seeking cancellation of the India-Pakistan Asia Cup T-20 cricket match scheduled to be held in Dubai on September 14. In the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the demand was made to cancel the India-Pakistan cricket match to be held in Dubai.
The petitioner argued that the match is scheduled to be held on Sunday, so the matter should be heard on Friday itself. The petition claimed that playing a cricket match with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor is against national dignity and the honor of the martyrs. The petition was filed by four law students, who also demanded the implementation of the National Sports Governance Act 2025. The petition was filed through advocates Sneha Rani, Abhishek Verma and Mohammad Anas Chaudhary. However, a bench of Supreme Court Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Vijay Bishnoi on Thursday rejected the request, saying that it is a match and it should be allowed to continue.
India has started with a record win against UAE in the Asia Cup. The next match will be between India and Pakistan. The match will be played on September 14 at 8 pm at Dubai International Stadium. India defeated UAE by 9 wickets in their first match of Asia Cup 2025. Bowling first, the Indian bowlers made the match one-sided and bundled out UAE for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs. It was a memorable night for spinners and all-rounders. Kuldeep Yadav was the star in bowling, taking 4 wickets for 7 runs in just 2.1 overs. Shivam Dubey performed brilliantly and took three wickets, while Axar Patel and Varun Chakraborty took one wicket each. Jasprit Bumrah found rhythm by maintaining the pressure early with the new ball. UAE's batting order faltered in front of his consistent accuracy, with only Alishan Sharafu scoring 22 runs in 17 balls.
Chasing a modest target of 58 runs, India's top order did not waste any time. Abhishek Sharma played a quick innings of 30 runs off 16 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes, while Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 20 off just 9 balls. Captain Suryakumar Yadav hit two big shots to guide the team to victory and India won the match in just 4.3 overs at a fast run rate of 13.33.
