IPL 2026: Glenn Maxwell set to miss season as his name is absent from mini auction

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The mini auction for the Indian Premier League 2026 will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16. A total of 1,355 players have registered for the auction. Veteran Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell's name is not included in this. Maxwell's name not being included in the auction list has made it clear that he will not be seen on the field in the next season. Glenn Maxwell was a part of Punjab Kings last season. He was out midway through the season due to a finger injury. Punjab had included Mitchell Owen in his place.
Maxwell was part of the Australian team in the recent five-match T20 series against India. Being in the team means he's fully fit. Despite being fit, Maxwell's failure to register for the auction has been a topic of discussion. However, Maxwell hasn't officially given a reason for not including his name in the auction list. This could be the end of Maxwell's IPL career, now 37 years old.
Maxwell has been playing in the IPL since 2012. He has played for the Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). A right-handed explosive batsman and spin bowler, Maxwell has scored 2,819 runs in 141 IPL matches at a strike rate of 155.15, including 18 half-centuries and 41 wickets.
The last two seasons haven't been good for Maxwell as a batsman. Maxwell, who scored just 52 runs in 10 matches for RCB in 2024, managed just 48 runs in 7 matches for Punjab Kings in 2025. These consecutive failures could be a reason for his omission from the auction. 2014 and 2021 were excellent seasons for Maxwell. In 2014, he scored 552 runs in 16 matches for Punjab. In 2021, he scored 513 runs in 15 matches for RCB. In 2023, he also scored 400 runs in 14 matches for RCB.
