New Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In IPL 2026, Punjab Kings registered a strong start with a 3-wicket win over Gujarat Titans at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. However, concerns arose after Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury during the match.
Iyer provides update on injury
The incident occurred during Punjab’s innings when Iyer was batting alongside Cooper Connolly. A shot played by Connolly struck Iyer’s hand at the non-striker’s end, causing visible pain. He briefly fell on the pitch before receiving treatment from the medical team.
Despite the injury, Iyer resumed batting but was dismissed shortly afterward. Speaking after the match, he said, “I can just say it is fine and the same as before. I don’t want to complicate it. I want to stay positive and hopefully everything will be okay.”
His statement suggests that the injury is not serious, and he is likely to be available for the next match.
