New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The reason for Indian cricket team's leading fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah not playing in the Oval Test against England has been revealed. Earlier it was believed that he has been given rest under workload management, but now according to reports, Bumrah has been injured.

According to media reports, Jasprit Bumrah has suffered a knee injury, due to which he had to be ruled out of the Oval Test. The BCCI had issued a press release on July 31 informing about the release of Bumrah from the team, but the injury was not mentioned at that time. According to a report in 'Mumbai Mirror', Bumrah's knee has been scanned and the BCCI medical team is awaiting the reports.

The relief is that Bumrah's injury is not too serious and will not require any surgery. The 31-year-old fast bowler is expected to go to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for recovery, where experts will work on his fitness. However, there are also reports that Bumrah will be rested from the upcoming Asia Cup as a precaution, so that he can be fully fit for future important matches.

This tour of England was average for Jasprit Bumrah. He took 14 wickets in 3 Test matches of the series, including the feat of taking five wickets in an innings twice. Despite this, his lack of fitness and rhythm was clearly visible. During the Manchester Test, he was also seen struggling to reach the speed of 140 kmph, which has raised concerns about his fitness. Fans are also very disappointed with his absence in an important match like the Oval.
