New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : New Zealand's dashing batsman Daryl Mitchell has become the new number one batsman in the ODI format. Mitchell overtook Kohli to take the top spot in the latest ODI rankings released by the ICC on Wednesday.

Daryl Mitchell scored two centuries and a half-century in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against India, earning the Player of the Series award and helping his team win its first ODI series in India. Following Mitchell's century in the third ODI in Indore, it was widely believed he would become the top-ranked batsman in the ODI format in the next ICC rankings. Mitchell has jumped one spot to first place.

Virat Kohli, who held the top spot in the last rankings, has dropped one spot to second. He also scored a century and a half-century in three innings of the series against New Zealand.

Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran has gained one spot, moving up to third. Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma had a disappointing New Zealand series. He failed to convert starts into big scores in all three matches, failing to score a single half-century. This has impacted his rankings. He has dropped one spot to fourth.

Indian captain Shubman Gill is at fifth, while former Pakistan captain Babar Azam is at sixth. Ireland's Harry Tractor is at seventh, West Indies' Shai Hope is at eighth, Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka is at ninth, and India's KL Rahul is at tenth. Rahul has gained one spot. Shreyas Iyer has dropped one spot to eleventh.
