Novak Djokovic Clinches Geneva Open, Marks 100th Career Title

Geneva (The Uttam Hindu): Veteran tennis player Novak Djokovic has achieved another big feat. He won the title of Geneva Open by defeating sixth seeded Hubert Hurkacz 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 in a thrilling match in the final. This victory is the 100th singles title of his career, which is a record in the Open Era.
Djokovic fell behind at the start of the match but made a brilliant comeback to win the next two sets in tie-breakers to register this historic win.
Djokovic won his 99th singles title at the Paris Olympics nine months ago. After this, he also participated in the Shanghai Masters and Miami Masters, but he had to face defeat in the finals of both the tournaments. He had to work hard to win this 100th title just two days before his 38th birthday. After the victory, Djokovic said, "I am very happy to win my 100th title here. I have worked very hard for this."
The Open Era in tennis history began in 1968, after which all professional and non-professional players were allowed to participate in Grand Slams. With this title, Djokovic has become the first player to win trophies in 20 different seasons, including an Olympic gold medal.
Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles in his career, has now reached the third place in the list of players who have won the most singles titles. Now only Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) are ahead of him. Sports lovers hope that Djokovic will soon try to break the records of these two as well.
India's star cricketer Suryakumar Yadav has also congratulated Djokovic on this great achievement. Sharing a picture of Djokovic on his Instagram story, he wrote, "Double it."
