New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 43 runs in Indian Premier League 2026 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. This marked RCB’s second consecutive win of the season and brought them closer to breaking a major IPL record held by CSK.

After winning the toss, CSK invited RCB to bat first. RCB posted a massive total of 250/3 in 20 overs, powered by explosive performances from Tim David (70 off 25 balls), Rajat Patidar (48 off 19), Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 29), Phil Salt (46 off 30), and Virat Kohli (28 off 18).

This was the 36th instance in IPL history where RCB scored 200 or more runs in an innings. The record for most 200+ totals is currently held by CSK, who have achieved this feat 37 times. With just two more such scores, RCB could surpass CSK and claim the record. Given RCB’s current form in IPL 2026, the record appears under serious threat.

In comparison, Punjab Kings have crossed the 200-run mark 33 times, Mumbai Indians 32 times, and Kolkata Knight Riders 30 times in IPL history.

Looking at the season so far, RCB seems to have carried forward their winning momentum from the previous edition. The IPL 2025 champions have won both their opening matches convincingly—first defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets and then CSK by 43 runs—climbing to the top of the points table.

On the other hand, CSK continues to struggle, much like their previous season where they finished last. In IPL 2026 as well, CSK has lost its first three matches and currently sits at the bottom of the table.
