Bangkok (The Uttam Hindu): Ritika's gold medal in the women's 80+ kg category marked a glorious end to India's campaign at the Asian Under-19 and Under-22 Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok, where the team won a total of 27 medals in both age groups. The 10-day combined tournament featured the best young boxers from the continent. India finished second in the Under-19 rankings and fourth in the Under-22.

The Under-19 team won a total of 14 medals including three gold, seven silver and four bronze. In terms of gold medals, this team finished second after Uzbekistan (seven). The Under-22 team won four silver medals and concluded its campaign with a total of 13 medals.

India fielded a strong contingent of 40 boxers, with 20 players in each age group, whose performances reflected India's growing strength in boxing in Asia.

Monday's only gold was won by Ritika in the women's 80+ kg final, where she kept calm under pressure and defeated Kazakhstan's Asel Toktasyn. Against a strong opponent, Ritika used a balance of caution and aggression to land the decisive punches and give India its fourth gold of the Under-19 and Under-22 Asian Boxing Championships.

In the women's 57 kg weight category, Yatri Patel had to settle for a silver medal after losing to Khumorabonu Mamajonova of Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, Priya lost to Yu Tian of China in the 60 kg category final.

Neeraj was defeated by Shavkatjon Boltaev of Uzbekistan in the final of the men's 75 kg weight category, while Ishan Kataria lost to Khalimjon Mamasoliev of Uzbekistan in the gold medal match of the 90+ kg category. Both Indian players won silver medals.

Earlier this year, India's Under-15 and Under-17 teams won a total of 43 medals in the Asian Championship, with the Under-15 team winning the most gold medals in the tournament, 11. The girls' team in particular dominated all their final matches, winning 10 out of 15 gold medals.
