New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The eagerness of the fans to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the two biggest pillars of Indian cricket who have bid farewell to Test and T20 cricket, on the field again is increasing. There is good news for the cricket lovers who are waiting to get the next glimpse of these two legends who recently performed brilliantly in the ODI series against South Africa. Now it is clear that the 'Rohit-Virat' pair will return to the blue jersey in the beginning of the new year. The Indian team is going to play a three-match home ODI series against New Zealand in January 2026, the first match of which will be played in Vadodara on January 11. It is almost certain that both of them will play in this series.

However, before their return to the international stage, Indian fans may be in for another big surprise. It's reported that both veterans will be trying their hand at domestic cricket to maintain their momentum before returning to Team India. Both senior players are likely to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which runs from December 24, 2025, to January 18, 2026. According to reports, Virat Kohli has informed the Delhi Cricket Association (DDCA) of his availability, while Rohit Sharma is also preparing to join the Mumbai team.

This tournament will be historic, as Virat Kohli will be playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after nearly 16 years. He last played in 2010. Between 2008 and 2010, he scored 819 runs in 13 matches for Delhi. Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, last participated in the tournament in 2018. The return of these two veterans to their home ground after so many years will not only be a learning opportunity for the young players but also provide excellent match practice for both before the New Zealand series.
