New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Rohit Sharma has made a brilliant comeback after a disappointing performance in the first ODI against Australia played in Perth. This opening batsman scored a half-century in Adelaide. This was the 59th fifty of his ODI career. Rohit completed his half-century in 74 balls. Rohit Sharma is playing for the Indian team after a long time. Before this series, Rohit was seen in the Champions Trophy final on March 9, 2025, in which he played an innings of 76 runs against New Zealand in Dubai.

With this innings, Rohit Sharma broke the record of former captain Sourav Ganguly, who had scored 9,146 runs in 236 ODI innings as an opening batsman. Rohit has now scored 9,219 runs in 186 ODI innings as an opening batsman. Rohit Sharma played this innings against Australia in Adelaide when the Indian team was in trouble.

After losing the toss and opting to bat, Team India had a disastrous start. India suffered a major setback in the form of captain Shubman Gill in the 6.1 over. Gill departed after scoring 9 runs off 9 balls, including one four. Virat Kohli then came onto the field. Four balls later, the team suffered another major setback in the form of Kohli, who departed after playing just four balls. He couldn't even open his account. This was the second time Kohli was dismissed for zero in this series.

Rohit Sharma, along with Shreyas Iyer, added 118 runs for the third wicket to bring India back into the match. Rohit was dismissed for 73 off 97 balls, including two sixes and seven fours. India lost the first match of the series by seven wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis method. Therefore, Team India is aiming to win this match and level the series. The final ODI between the two countries will be played in Sydney on October 25th.
