Shubman Gill’s dismissal sparks fury; ‘mystery girl’ caught on camera cursing him

Perth (The Uttam Hindu): Shubman Gill, who has been in excellent form since taking over as captain of Team India, went silent in the very first match of the ODI series against Australia. Gill, who made a splash as Test captain during the England tour, was expected to perform similarly in ODIs, but on October 19 in Perth, he made a mistake that cost Team India dearly. As soon as Gill was dismissed, a girl sitting in the stadium erupted in anger, her reaction is now viral on social media.
Team India's batting was utterly devastated in the first ODI of the series, which began in Perth. Rohit Sharma (8) and Virat Kohli (0), both returning from a long hiatus, were utterly thwarted. Rohit departed cheaply, while Virat failed to even open his account.
In such challenging conditions, all eyes were on new captain Shubman Gill. Gill made a good start with two excellent boundaries against the likes of Starc and Hazlewood and looked settled at the crease.
Just when it looked like Gill would be able to salvage the innings, he gave away his wicket on the very first ball of the 10th over from new bowler Nathan Ellis. Ellis' delivery was outside leg stump, and Gill attempted to play it towards fine leg. But the ball took the edge of his bat and went straight into the wicketkeeper's gloves.
Indian fans were disappointed by Gill's dismissal. But among the thousands of fans, the camera focused on a girl wearing a blue Team India jersey, who was furious at the captain's mistake. She was seen cursing Gill for his carelessness. This fan's reaction quickly went viral on social media.
Shubman Gill's bat has often remained silent against the current world champions, Australia, in the ODI format. Gill has played nine ODIs against Australia, including the Perth ODI, in which he has scored just 290 runs at a modest average of 32. This includes one century and one half-century. This performance is surprising because six of these nine matches have been played on India's batting-friendly pitches. Consequently, the remaining two matches of the series will be crucial for captain Gill.
