Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The second semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup will be played between India national cricket team and England cricket team on Thursday at 7 pm at the Wankhede Stadium. Both teams will aim to deliver their best performance to secure a place in the final.

Both sides have performed impressively in the tournament so far. The Indian team suffered its only defeat in the Super-8 stage against South Africa national cricket team, while England faced its lone loss in the group stage against the West Indies cricket team.

India’s top batting order has not always performed collectively in the tournament, but in every match at least one player has played a decisive innings to guide the team. Sanju Samson’s knock against West Indies is a clear example. In the last two matches, the spin of Varun Chakravarthy has not been very effective.

India’s top-order batters, especially Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav, will need to play impactful innings against England. Sanju Samson will also look to maintain his form. In the middle order, the team expects valuable contributions from Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma. India will also need improvement in spin bowling and fielding.

England began the tournament with a narrow win against the Nepal national cricket team, but the team has shown steady improvement since then. They reached the semi-final without losing any match in the Super-8 stage. The biggest concern for England has been the inconsistent performance of opening batters Phil Salt and Jos Buttler. England will hope both openers deliver strong performances in the semi-final. In the middle order, Harry Brook and Will Jacks have performed well, while the bowling attack also appears balanced.

This will be the third consecutive time that India and England face each other in a ICC Men's T20 World Cup semi-final. England won the semi-final in 2022, while India emerged victorious in 2024. Interestingly, on both occasions the team that won the semi-final went on to win the title.

So far, India and England have played 29 T20 matches against each other. India has won 17, while England has won 12, giving the statistical edge to the Indian team.

The pitch at Wankhede Stadium is generally considered favourable for batting. Both teams have explosive openers, and the side whose opening pair performs better is likely to gain the advantage. India could also benefit from strong support from the home crowd.
