New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Shubman Gill has been admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. He was taken to the facility due to severe pain in his neck.

Indian captain Shubman Gill’s participation in the first Test against South Africa has become uncertain after he retired hurt on the second day, Saturday, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Gill strained his neck while attempting a slog sweep against Simon Harmer, forcing him to walk off the field. He faced only three balls and scored four runs. He hit Harmer for a boundary over backward square leg, but during the shot, his neck muscles cramped up. The physio rushed to the ground immediately, but the star batter had to retire hurt. The incident occurred after the drinks break in the 35th over. The situation turned even more worrying when Gill was later seen being taken away wearing a neck collar, raising further concerns about the seriousness of the injury.
