Team India suffers major setback ahead of India-Africa series, Shreyas Iyer to be out of action for 3 weeks: The incident occurred on Saturday when Iyer was fielding at deep square leg. Carey played a powerful shot off Harshit Rana, which Iyer dived and took a brilliant catch. However, he suffered a severe blow to his ribs. The medical team immediately arrived at the field and he was sent to a hospital in Sydney for evaluation.

A BCCI official said that initial scans have confirmed a rib injury. He has been advised to rest for a few weeks. The official also added that if the injury turns out to be a deep or hairline fracture, the recovery time could be longer.

According to sources, after fully recovering, Shreyas will have to undergo a fitness test at the NCA (National Cricket Academy). The medical team there will evaluate his condition and determine when he will be available to return to the team.

This injury has put Iyer's participation in the South Africa tour in doubt. The first match of the ODI series between India and South Africa is scheduled to be played in Ranchi on November 30. According to the BCCI, no decision has been made on Iyer's availability at this time and everything will depend on his medical report.
