Team India suffers setback, Shubman Gill ruled out of second Test

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Team India has suffered a major setback after losing the first Test to South Africa. Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the second Test. According to media reports, Rishabh Pant is likely to take over the captaincy in Gill’s absence. The second Test will be played in Guwahati from November 22 to 26. Gill sustained a neck strain on the second day of the Kolkata Test on November 15 and was taken to the hospital after the day’s play ended.
During the first Test in Kolkata, Gill’s neck injury turned out to be more serious than expected. Initially, it was thought to be a minor issue caused by sleeping in the wrong position, but his condition worsened, and he had to be admitted to a hospital in Kolkata, where he remained under observation overnight. After evaluation, doctors discharged him with a neck brace.
Gill later travelled with the team to Guwahati. Though recent videos showed him without the brace, it was clear from his movements that he has not fully recovered. For this reason, he has been ruled out of the upcoming Test.
