Manchester (The Uttam Hindu): A new chapter in Indian cricket history was written on Saturday (July 4) during the second T20 International between India and England at Old Trafford in Manchester. Young opening batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi was named in India's playing XI and, as he stepped onto the field, became the youngest player ever to make an international debut for India. India's vice-captain Tilak Varma presented him with his debut cap. Suryavanshi also became the 122nd cricketer to represent India in T20 Internationals.

Sachin Tendulkar's 37-year-old record falls

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his international debut at the age of 15 years and 99 days, surpassing the long-standing record held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar made his international debut in a Test match against Pakistan in Karachi on November 15, 1989, when he was 16 years and 205 days old. With this achievement, Suryavanshi has become the youngest player ever to represent India in men's international cricket.

Youngest Indian international across men's and women's cricket

Suryavanshi has not only set a new record in men's cricket but has also become the youngest international cricketer to represent India across both men's and women's cricket.

The previous overall record belonged to Shafali Verma, who made her T20 International debut against South Africa on September 24, 2019, at the age of 15 years and 239 days. By debuting at 15 years and 99 days, Suryavanshi has eclipsed Shafali's milestone to become India's youngest-ever international cricketer.
