Liverpool (The Uttam Hindu): Saturday night became historic for Indian boxing when Jasmine Lamboria won the gold medal at the World Boxing Championship 2025 held in Liverpool, England. In a thrilling final match of the women's 57 kg category, Jasmine defeated Poland's Olympic silver medalist Julia Szeremeta. Another medal was added to this great success of India when Nupur won the silver medal in the women's +80 kg category.

24-year-old Jasmine's final match started under a lot of pressure. Szeremeta took an early lead amid loud noise from the local Polish supporters. However, the Indian boxer made a brilliant comeback in the second round and took control of the match using her better reach and sharp counter-attacks. After this, Jasmine maintained her rhythm and won by a split decision of 4-1 and gave India its first gold medal in the tournament.

After the victory, an emotional Jasmine said, "This feeling cannot be described in words, I am very happy to become the world champion. After an early exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics, I worked very hard on both my technique and mental strength. This medal is the fruit of a year of tireless dedication."

At the same time, heavyweight boxer Nupur fought hard against Poland's Agata Kaczmarska in the women's +80 kg final, but she had to face defeat. In a close match, Kaczmarska did not let Nupur take advantage of her height and eventually won by a split decision of 3-2, due to which Nupur had to settle for the silver medal.

It was one of India's most successful campaigns ever. Earlier, Pooja Rani won a bronze medal after losing in the semi-finals. This was the first time that three Indian women boxers – Meenakshi (48 kg), Jasmine (57 kg), and Nupur (80 kg) – reached the final of the World Championships.
