New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A pioneering high-altitude para sports center will soon be established in Leh, Ladakh, designed to enhance the skills and confidence of athletes in preparation for the 2028 Paralympics. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed between the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, and the Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF). Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC, expressed his pride, saying, "We are extremely proud that Leh will be home to the world's first-ever high-altitude para sports center.

Indian para-athletes have already proven their potential by winning 29 medals, including seven golds, at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris—a true testament to the talent we have in the country." While the center is being built, the AMF will identify 15 Children with Special Needs (CwSN) from the Leh-Ladakh region, who will undergo screening, counseling, and training at the Infinity Parasports Academy and Rehabilitation Centre in Hyderabad. Aditya Mehta, Founder of AMF, shared his excitement, stating, "The establishment of Leh Ladakh as a hub for para sports signifies a new chapter not only for the region but for India’s future in international competitions."
