14‑Year‑old student jumps from school roof, suffers broken legs & spinal injury — what led to the tragic leap

Ratlam (The Uttam Hindu): A private school in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, was rocked on Friday when an eighth-grade student jumped from the upper floor. The 14-year-old student, who was upset by being scolded for using a mobile phone and making reels, was seriously injured in the suicide attempt. Both his legs and spine were severely broken, and he is battling for his life in the hospital.
This shocking incident occurred at the city's prestigious Bodhi School around 10:30 a.m. The injured student has been identified as 14-year-old Vishan Katara. According to eyewitnesses, chaos erupted on the school campus as soon as the student fell. The school management immediately rushed the bleeding student to a nearby private hospital. After providing first aid, doctors declared his condition extremely critical and referred him to GD Hospital, where he is currently receiving intensive treatment.
Preliminary investigations have revealed the use of mobile phones and social media as the reason behind the incident. According to reports, on Thursday, teachers had counseled the student about bringing a mobile phone to school and posting reels on social media. On Friday, the school management also called his parents for a discussion. It is reported that while this discussion was ongoing, the student, under pressure and agitated, suddenly left the scene, went straight to the roof, and jumped off.
According to medical sources, the student suffered serious injuries from the fall. He suffered broken bones in both legs, and fractures in eight to ten spinal cords. The student's condition remains critical, and a team of specialists is treating him. The student's family is in deep shock following this tragic incident.
