Jodhpur (The Uttam Hindu): On Friday, an incident occurred at the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation in Rajasthan that has everyone unable to contain their laughter. The administration struggled to open a mysterious safe, calling in mechanics and spending thousands of rupees. Everyone hoped there would be some treasure or important documents inside, but when the door opened, the saying "digging a mountain to find a mouse" proved true. A mere one rupee coin was found inside the safe.
The mysterious vault was closed for 20 years
Cleaning and verification of old records are currently underway at the corporation's old office. During this time, officials noticed a heavy, dusty safe lying in a corner. Upon examining the records, they discovered that the safe was brought here around 2005, but over time, its keys were lost, leaving it a mystery for the past two decades. Officials suspected that it might contain valuable old files, land leases, or perhaps some cash. Out of curiosity, they decided to open it immediately.
2500 rupees were spent in breaking the lock
The safe was so old and sturdy that it was impossible to open it easily. An expert craftsman was called in. After hours of effort and the use of specialized equipment, the lock was finally broken. The corporation had to pay approximately 2,500 rupees for the craftsman's fee and other expenses. Officials and employees held their breath, waiting with bated breath to see what would emerge from within.
When the door opened, I was shocked
After much struggle, as the heavy vault door swung open, the officers and staff present were stunned. Inside were neither gold nor silver coins nor any secret documents. Deep in the vault's darkness lay a single one-rupee coin from 1982. The sight brought a moment of silence, followed by laughter. The vault, which had cost two and a half thousand rupees to open, contained only one rupee.
'Most expensive one rupee' goes viral on social media
Now, this matter has become a topic of discussion throughout the city and on social media. A joke has spread within the corporation's corridors that the administration spent 20 years guarding a single rupee. People on social media are joking that this is the "most expensive one rupee" in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation's history, and that it cost 2,500 rupees to know its value.
