Patna (The Uttam Hindu): In Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party has made a major reshuffle in the organization and has now handed over the command of the state president to Sanjay Sarawagi. Putting an end to the speculations that had been going on for a long time, the party has appointed five-time MLA from Darbhanga and senior leader Sanjay Sarawagi as the new head of the Bihar unit. BJP's National General Secretary and Headquarters in-charge Arun Singh, while issuing a formal letter in this regard, said that as per the instructions of the National President, Sanjay Sarawagi's appointment will come into effect with immediate effect.

In fact, after the party's impressive performance in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, then-state president Dilip Jaiswal was given the responsibility of a ministerial position in the new government. The BJP strictly enforces the principle of "one person, one position," so the search for a new state president had been ongoing since Dilip Jaiswal became a minister. Now, the party has expressed confidence in Sanjay Sarawagi and entrusted him with this important responsibility. Sarawagi is considered one of the organization's most experienced and grassroots leaders, having been associated with the Sangh and party ideology since his student political days.

Sanjay Sarawagi's political journey has been long and full of experience. Beginning his political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Sarawagi joined the BJP in 1995. He was first elected as a ward councilor from the Darbhanga Municipal Corporation in 2003. Subsequently, he became an MLA in 2005, and has won consecutively since then (in 2010, 2015, 2020, and the most recent 2025 elections). In the recently concluded 2025 assembly elections, he demonstrated his popularity by defeating his rival Umesh Sahni by a landslide. Sanjay Sarawagi, who holds an M.Com and MBA from Mithila University, will now work to strengthen the party's organization in Bihar.
