Deadly dose: Woman's death sparks seizure of over 500 cough syrup bottles in Kota, probe underway

Kota (The Uttam Hindu): The death of a woman in Kota, Rajasthan, after consuming cough syrup has caused a sensation. Following the incident, the Drug Control Department took immediate action and raided a medical store and warehouse. During this, more than 500 bottles of cough syrup were seized, samples of which have been sent to the lab for testing. Further action will be decided only after the report is received. This entire operation was carried out under the leadership of Drug Controller Devendra Garg.

Officials said it would be premature to draw any conclusions until the report is received. Currently, both the police and the drug department are conducting parallel investigations. All information has been sent to senior officials.
Anantpura police station in-charge SI Rohit Kumar stated that the deceased's post-mortem report was awaited by a medical board to rule out any doubts. The police have initiated an investigation by taking statements from the family. According to the complaint, the woman's health suddenly deteriorated shortly after drinking the syrup.
According to reports, 57-year-old Kamla Devi, a resident of Ajay Ahuja Nagar, was cleaning her home for Diwali. She developed a cough and cold when she arrived. Her son brought her cough syrup from a nearby medical store. Within minutes of drinking the syrup, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she was rushed to the Medical College Hospital, where she died during treatment. According to doctors, the woman's heartbeat continued to decline, and despite all efforts, she could not be revived.
The Drug Department has urged people to consult a doctor before using any suspected medication or syrup. Officials have stated that strict action will be taken against those found guilty once the investigation report is received.
