Ancient Hanuman temple in Chamoli: A dwapar era witness to humility and devotion

Uttarakhand (The Uttam Hindu): Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is deeply ingrained in Indian history and mythology. One such sacred site is the Shri Hanuman Temple, known as Hanuman Chatti, located in Chamoli district. It is said that this temple dates back to the Dwapara Yuga.

This Hanuman temple in Chamoli, Hanuman Chatti (Badrinath Road), and the temples near Auli are renowned sites of mythological significance. These sites are associated with religious beliefs as well as ancient legends and traditions.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized its importance. He shared a special video of the temple on his social media platform, X. Along with it, he wrote, "The Shri Hanuman Temple at Hanuman Chatti, Chamoli, is believed to date back to the Mahabharata period. It is believed that it was at this very spot that Shri Hanuman, through his divine play, imparted the message of humility to Bhima. Upon your arrival in Chamoli, be sure to visit this sacred site and receive the blessings of Shri Hanuman."

Hanuman Chatti is a religious and mythological sacred site steeped in ancient stories. It is believed to date back to the Mahabharata period. It is believed that near Chamoli (near Hanuman Chatti), Hanuman appeared to Bhima in the form of an old monkey to break his pride about his strength. When Bhima asked Hanuman (who was in the form of a monkey) to leave the path, Hanuman asked him to move his tail. Even with all his strength, Bhima was unable to move Hanuman's tail. This incident made Bhima realize that this was no ordinary monkey, but Hanuman, and his pride was shattered.

The temple's history is also linked to the Ramayana period. It is believed that Lord Hanuman rested here on his way from Lanka to the Himalayas. This temple is considered extremely powerful, and during winter, the pine trees and snow cover create a truly ethereal atmosphere.
