Patna (The Uttam Hindu): The impact of the LPG gas shortage in the capital Patna is now clearly visible not only on the common man but also on thieves. To avoid the long queues outside gas agencies for cooking, a gang of thieves has now found a new and surprising way. In the Mehdiganj police station area of Patna, thieves entered a house in broad daylight and stole a filled gas cylinder. The entire incident was captured on the CCTV camera installed in the house. At a time when common people are struggling for gas, this incident of cylinder theft has shocked the people of the area and now they have become cautious about the safety of their cylinders.

When the gas ran out, she went out to find a new one, then the secret of the theft was revealed

This strange theft took place at the house of a female advocate living near Guru Gobind Singh Link Path. The incident took place on March 19, 2026, at around 9:50 am, when thieves entered the house very cleverly and made off with a full domestic gas cylinder. Interestingly, the landlady did not get a whiff of this theft for weeks. On April 3, 2026, when the gas cylinder in her kitchen ran out and she searched for a full cylinder to cook food, it was missing from its place. After a lot of searching, when she checked the CCTV footage of the house, the act of this new gang of thieves was exposed.

Rumours and panic booking exacerbated the crisis

While gas shortages are leading to incidents of theft, the state government claims the situation is completely under control. Bihar Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit recently held a high-level review meeting with all district secretaries and divisional commissioners regarding the supply of LPG, petrol, and diesel. He issued strict instructions to oil companies to work in mission mode. During the review, it was clarified that there is adequate availability of LPG in all districts and there is no crisis. Officials stated that the supply delays were due to panic booking by people fearing gas shortages. The government has appealed to consumers not to panic and ignore rumors.
