Dehradun (The Uttam Hindu): Monday morning in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, turned horrific when shots were fired during a fierce road rage incident on Mussoorie Road. In this firing, retired Army Brigadier VK Joshi, who was on a morning walk, was shot and died on the spot. What started as a minor dispute between two vehicles over overtaking turned so violent that panic spread throughout the area.

The game of death started due to the insistence of overtaking

Preliminary investigations have revealed that a heated argument broke out on Mussoorie Road between the occupants of a Fortuner with Delhi registration number and a Scorpio car over overtaking. This minor argument escalated into a violent clash within moments. It is alleged that the enraged Scorpio occupants began pursuing the Fortuner at high speed and, in an attempt to stop it, began firing indiscriminately, targeting its tires.

Brigadier VK Joshi went for a walk at 6:50 am

This horrific incident took place at around 6:50 am near Tula Apartments in Johri village of Rajpur police station area. As usual, retired Brigadier VK Joshi had left his house for a walk in the fresh morning air. During this time, a stray bullet from the indiscriminate firing from vehicles hit the Brigadier directly, killing him on the spot. An eyewitness present at the spot said that he too was taking a morning walk when suddenly he heard loud gunshots. When he went closer and looked, the retired officer was lying on the ground drenched in blood.

The car collided with a tree, yet the attackers' rampage did not stop

The Fortuner car, trying to escape the firing of the Scorpio-borne attackers, went out of control near the Government Primary School in Johri village and hit a roadside tree. Even after such a horrific accident, the attackers' anger did not subside. The people in the Scorpio got out of the car and brutally assaulted the people in the Fortuner and also badly damaged their vehicle. Two people in the Fortuner were seriously injured in this deadly attack and were immediately rushed to the hospital by their companions.

Blockade across the district, police scanning CCTV

After carrying out this daring incident, all the attackers, riding in a Scorpio, easily escaped from the scene. This broad daylight shooting and the death of a retired army officer has created a stir within the police department. Dehradun SP City Pramod Kumar stated that the police team immediately arrived at the scene and began the investigation. All nearby CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the killers and trace their escape route. Given the seriousness of the case, a strict blockade has been imposed across the district and suspicious vehicles are being thoroughly checked.
