Sambhal (The Uttam Hindu): A particularly tragic incident has emerged from Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, where the terror of stray dogs has robbed a happy family of their happiness. A 9-year-old girl, returning from the fields with her grandmother in Pota village, under the Hazrat Nagar Garhi police station area, was attacked by a pack of stray dogs. The girl was so badly injured in the attack that she died.

Innocent Riya was left behind by her grandmother

The incident occurred on Sunday evening. Bunty, a resident of Pota village, had gone to the farm with her grandmother Munni and some other family members. While returning from work, the rest of the family got carried away, chatting, while little Riya was left behind. As she approached the village park, a pack of stray dogs, already present there, attacked her.

Villagers ran with sticks and rods, but could not save their lives

Frightened by the dogs' attack, Riya began screaming. Her voice terrified her grandmother and others walking ahead. They raised an alarm, prompting nearby villagers to rush to the scene armed with sticks. The villagers managed to drive the dogs away, but it was too late. The dogs had mauled the girl, leaving her severely injured. The family immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead after examination. The news of the girl's death was met with chaos within the family.

There has been terror of dogs in the village for the last four months

Following the innocent child's death, villagers are deeply angry with the administration. Locals say that stray dogs have been a menace in the village for quite some time. In the past four months, the dogs have attacked and injured several people, yet no concrete action has been taken. Villagers say that if these dangerous dogs are not caught in time, they could pose a threat to other children.
