Critical security flaw in MediaTek chipset puts millions of Android smartphones at risk
A critical vulnerability in MediaTek chipsets could expose millions of Android smartphones to security risks and potential cyberattacks.

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Researchers have discovered a serious security flaw in MediaTek’s Dimensity and Helio chipsets that could allow attackers to gain access to Android smartphones within a minute. The vulnerability targets the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), a secure area designed to protect sensitive user data.
According to experts, the flaw was identified by the research team of a cryptocurrency firm. During testing on a smartphone equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, researchers were able to access sensitive data from the device in about 45 seconds, raising concerns about the security of millions of Android phones.
The vulnerability could allow hackers to obtain a device’s security PIN, access decrypted storage, and even extract cryptocurrency wallet seed phrases used for account recovery. MediaTek said it released a patch to device manufacturers in January, but it is still unclear whether all affected devices have received the update.
