Breakthrough in longevity: Grape seed extract pill could unlock 150-year human lifespan

Beijing (The Uttam Hindu): Will humans be able to live up to 150 years? Chinese scientists are claiming to have developed a pill that can extend a person's lifespan by 150 years. This miracle drug is based on a natural substance derived from grape seeds. Shenzhen-based biotech company Lonve Biosciences is working on this anti-aging pill. However, other scientists around the world say that this is just a claim at present and large and successful trials on humans are necessary before it can be considered true.
What's the science behind this 'miracle' pill?
The pill's main ingredient is procyanidin C1 (PCC1), which is found in high amounts in grape seed extract. The company claims that the pill will selectively destroy old and weak cells (senescent cells) in the body, while protecting healthy cells. This could slow down the aging process and increase lifespan.
This research is based on a 2021 study published in the prestigious journal Nature Metabolism. In that study, PCC1 was tested on mice. The study found that PCC1 selectively destroyed aging cells in mice
without harming healthy cells. As a result, mice given the drug experienced a 9% longer lifespan, an average of 64.2% longer lifespan.
'Living to 150 will become a reality'
The company's CEO, Yip Tszhou (Jico), has called the pill the "Holy Grail of Longevity Science." He said, "Combined with a healthy lifestyle, living to 150 will become a reality in just a few years." The company is now developing this technology into a pill for humans.
Why are scientists cautious?
However, other scientists are cautious about these claims. Experts at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging say that while the results in mice are encouraging, it is difficult to directly apply them to humans. Scientists said that the aging process is extremely complex. Large and rigorous clinical trials in humans are needed to prove the effectiveness and safety of this drug. Experts believe that extending the maximum human lifespan by this much will require extraordinary research and evidence.
Research is a national priority in China
Anti-aging research has been given a national priority in China. The government and private companies are investing heavily in this field. While living to 150 years may seem like a dream right now, this discovery is inspiring enthusiasm among the general public.
At present, doctors advise that instead of waiting for a miracle pill for longevity, healthy eating, regular exercise and good habits are the best medicine.
