China unveils Changying-8, world's largest cargo drone with 3.5-ton payload capacity
This heavy-lift drone can carry up to 3.5 metric tons of cargo and has a range of approximately 3,000 kilometers

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): China has taken a major step forward in unmanned cargo technology by successfully testing its new heavy-lift cargo drone, the Changying-8. Capable of carrying up to 3.5 metric tons of cargo at a time, the drone is said to be one of the world's largest cargo drones.
According to media reports, the drone took off from Zhengzhou Shangqiao International Airport in Henan Province. During the test, it remained in the air for approximately 30 minutes and made a safe landing. During the flight, all key technical aspects, including its intelligent flight control system, avionics, electrical and mechanical systems, were successfully tested. The Changying-8 was developed by China's leading defense company, China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (Norinco). "Changying" means "giant eagle," which reflects its strength and capability. The drone is approximately 17 meters long and has a wingspan of 25 meters, and its maximum flight range is reported to be approximately 3,000 kilometers.
One of this drone's special features is that it requires less than 500 meters of runway for takeoff and landing. Its robust landing gear allows it to operate easily on unpaved or uneven runways. This makes it considered useful in difficult terrain, such as plateaus and islands. The drone features loading doors on both the front and rear, allowing it to load up to 3.5 tons of cargo in approximately 15 minutes. Furthermore, the company claims that its wings have been designed to support additional loads.
According to Norinco Chairman Tsai Hongqing, the success of this project could allow China to rapidly develop more advanced and heavy-duty drones. This technology is considered a game-changer in the defense and logistics sectors.
