New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Important UPI Update: Service to Be Stopped on These Mobile Numbers from April 1 An important news has come out for crores of people using Unified Payments Interface (UPI). If the mobile number linked to your bank account has been inactive for a long time, then activate it immediately, otherwise you will not be able to use UPI services from April 1.

Actually, a new rule is going to be implemented in the UPI payment system from April 1 with the aim of preventing digital fraud. Under this new rule, all banks and payment service providers (PSPs) will have to update their database before March 31. Through this update, inactive or changed mobile numbers will be removed from the system. Under this process, banks will have to mandatorily remove inactive mobile numbers from their database by March 31.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has strictly instructed to use the Mobile Number Revocation List (MNRL) available on the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) to curb fraud incidents. After completion of this process, all UPI accounts linked to inactive mobile numbers will be automatically closed.

In this regard, NPCI has made it mandatory for banks and major UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe to update mobile number records at least once a week. Companies providing UPI services will have to regularly use MNRL or Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) to identify suspicious activities and remove them from the system.

Whose UPI service can be stopped?

– Users who have changed their mobile number but have not updated it with their bank account.

– People who have deactivated their mobile number and have not reported it to the bank.

– Deactivated mobile numbers which are not being used even for normal services like calls, SMS will be removed from the UPI network.

How to avoid UPI service shutdown?

– Make sure that the mobile number linked to your bank account is active and is being used regularly. If it is inactive, activate it by recharging it as soon as possible.

– If you have changed your mobile number, update it immediately by visiting your bank.

– If your UPI ID is linked to a mobile number that is inactive, you can get a new active mobile number and link it to your bank account and UPI ID to avoid service shutdown before April 1.

– This new rule is an important step towards enhancing the security of UPI users and reducing digital fraud. All users are advised to check the status of their mobile number before the last date and ensure necessary action.
